| Resumo: | O presente trabalho investiga a discussão contemporânea sobre a natureza das propriedades, apresentando e defendendo a versão do nominalismo que ficou conhecida como Nominalismo de Avestruz. Busca-se mostrar como essa teoria, inicialmente considerada insatisfatória para responder o problema do Um em Muitos e depois desafiada pelos problemas do Muitos em Um e do Similares mas Diferentes, é capaz de solucionar de forma razoável esses problemas. Sendo a única solução não relacional para o assim chamado ‘Problema dos Universais’, essa teoria evita objeções baseadas em reduções ao infinito indesejadas. Também se apresentam antigas e novas ferramentas utilizadas na resposta a esses problemas, explorando, por exemplo, noções como a de compromisso ontológico e de fundamentação metafísica |

| Abstract: | The present thesis investigates the contemporary discussion about the nature of properties, introducing and arguing for the version of nominalism that became known as Ostrich Nominalism. It is shown how that theory, although initially deemed unsatisfactory in answering the One over Many problem and later challenged by the Many over One problem and the Similar but Different problem, is capable of reasonably solving them. Being the only non-relational solution to the so-called ‘Problem of Universals’, the Ostrich Nominalism avoids objections based on unwanted reductions to infinity. Furthermore, old and new tools which were used to answer those problems are presented, specially the ontological commitment and the metaphysical grounding. |
