O PAPEL DA METAFÍSICA NA TEORIA FÍSICA DE PIERRE DUHEM

Um dos objetivos de Duhem em A Teoria Física: seu objeto e sua estrutura é distinguir o campo da metafísica do campo da física e apontar o progresso que a classificação natural das leis físicas representa para o campo científico. No que tange à demarcação entre essas duas diferentes áreas do conhecimento - física e metafísica - podemos considerar que a gênese dessa problemática é apresentada a partir da conflituosa interpretação do que seja a teoria física. Desse modo, pretendemos tratar, nesta dissertação, em primeiro lugar, do contexto [a partir do qual Duhem desenvolve suas ideias ], ou seja, das tradições e dos modelos explicativos adotados pela física até então. E, em um segundo momento, buscar esclarecer e justificar a necessidade de uma demarcação epistemológica entre física e metafísica, com a finalidade de ressaltar a concepção duheminiana de teoria física. O objetivo será o de detalhar o modo como a teoria física se desenvolve segundo a perspectiva de Duhem, partindo da  via que descreve os fenômenos matematicamente, os quais são objetos da classificação natural, até a obtenção de um conhecimento aproximadamente “verdadeiro” do mundo.

One of Duhem's goals in The Aim and Structure of Physical Theory is to distinguish the field of metaphysics  from  the field  of physics  and  to  point  out  the progress  that  the natural classification of physical laws represents for the scientific field. Regarding the demarcation between these two different areas of knowledge - physics and metaphysics - we can assume that the genesis of this problematic is presented from the conflicting interpretation of what is physical theory. Thus, we intend to treat, in this dissertation, first, the context [from which Duhem develops his ideas], that is, the traditions and explanatory models adopted by physics until  then.  And,  in  a  second  moment,  seek  to  clarify  and  justify  the  need  for  an epistemological demarcation between physics and metaphysics, with the purpose of highlighting the Duheminian conception of physical theory. The objective will be to detail how physical theory develops from Duhem's perspective, starting from the path that describes phenomena mathematically, which are objects of natural classification, until obtaining an approximately "true" knowledge of the world.
