O CONCEITO DE CIÊNCIA EM GIAMBATTISTA VICO

A presente pesquisa é um estudo sobre o conceito de ciência em Giambattista Vico a  partir  de  suas  primeiras  obras.  Trata-se  de  uma  investigação  de  caráter bibliográfico das obras, de seu contexto histórico e de seus comentadores, e as tenta comparar com a leitura de Vico sobre a teoria cartesiana. Enquanto filósofo e professor, Vico preocupou-se com um conceito de ciência que levasse em conta as características específicas da humanidade e buscou estabelecer um conhecimento científico sobre ela. No contexto em que ele viveu, crescia uma tendência científica de se tentar aplicar o mesmo método utilizado para estabelecer uma ciência sobre a natureza para a compreensão das ações da humanidade. Outro problema que ele tentava  enfrentar  era  o  de  que  os  estudos  que  se  dedicavam  a  entender  os problemas humanos não eram considerados sequer científicos. Vico se esforça em interpretar o que seria o conhecimento científico e tenta garantir que o estudo da humanidade também receba o status de ciência. Para compreender o conceito de ciência proposto por ele, decidimos dar uma atenção especial às suas primeiras obras, De Ratione e De Antiquissima, pois elas configuram uma metodologia para a ciência, para a formação e a educação do homem, em um diálogo com o cartesianismo. A teoria de Vico consegue se estender por sobre um amplo espectro de temas que nesse estudo foi destacado. Contudo, os limites dessa pesquisa são sobre a necessidade humana de uma ciência que compreenda a humanidade, que se encontra em permanente estado de mudança, e de uma proposta de ciência que seja capaz de perceber as fragilidades, limites e imperfeições do homem em busca de  um  conhecimento  verdadeiro.  Portanto,  de  acordo  com  a  teoria  de  Vico,  o homem, mesmo limitado e imperfeito, é capaz de produzir uma ciência útil mediante o uso do método sintético que lhe permite o uso da imaginação, da abstração e do entendimento; mas, ao mesmo tempo, o homem precisa estar atento aos riscos de fracasso  se  ele  se  utilizar  de  um  método  ineficaz  de  ciência.  Em  conclusão, buscamos contextualizar o pensamento viquiano, relacioná-lo à e diferenciá-lo da teoria cartesiana e investigar como Vico aplica tais conceitos e tal metodologia a partir de suas primeiras obras.

This research is a study on the Giambattista Vico’s science concept from his early works.  It  consists  in  a  bibliographical  investigation  of  the  works,  their  historical context as well as their commentators and tries to compare them with Vico’s own understanding of the theory of Cartesianism. As a philosopher and a teacher, Vico was concerned with a concept of science that took into account the specific characteristics of humanity and sought to establish scientific knowledge about it. In the context he lived, there was grown a scientific tendency to try and apply the same method used to establish a science about nature to the comprehension of humanity’s actions. Another  problem  that  he  tried  to  face  was  that  the  studies  that  were dedicated to the understanding of human problems were not even considered scientific. Vico  strives  to interpret  what  scientific knowledge truly is and tries to ensure that the study of humanity may also receive the status of science. In order to understand the concept of science proposed by him, we decided to pay special attention to his first works, De Ratione and De Antiquissima, since they constitute a methodology for science, for the formation and education of man, in a dialogue with Cartesianism. Vico’s theory can extend over a broad spectrum of issues that this study was highlighted. However, the limits of this research are on the human need for a science that understands humanity, which is in a permanent state of change, and a proposal  for  science  to  be  able  to  realize  weaknesses,  limits  and  human imperfections in search of a true knowledge. Therefore, according to Vico's theory, man, even limited and imperfect, is capable of producing a useful science by using the synthetic method which allows him to use the imagination, the abstraction and understanding; but at the same time man must be aware of the failure’s risks if he uses an ineffective method of science. In conclusion, we sought to contextualize Viquian thought, to relate it and differentiate it from Cartesian theory, and investigate how Vico applies such concepts and methodology in his early works.
